Council students’ visit to House of Representatives PDF Print E-mail

Students from the students’ councils of the seven schools of St. Theresa College participated in April in an educational orientation visit to the new House of Representatives in Valletta.  The students were shown around the premises and various chambers and their functions were explained.  The main attraction of the visit was experiencing the environment of legislative procedures to enact the laws of the country, by sitting in the Strangers Gallery.  The visits were co-ordinated by the Youth Worker and the Office of the College Principal.

 


 

 
Entrepreneurship Through Education Scheme 2016 PDF Print E-mail

SCAMPER exercise on creative thinking

Look-Think-Do is a learning and doing experience project in the Entrepreneurship Through Education Scheme, where around 24 students from the three secondary schools of St. Theresa College have the opportunity to learn new skills using their creativity and innovation.  They will learn marketing and budgeting skills to create a company of their own and run it with the help of their educators.  Students have the opportunity to meet an entrepreneur and visit the enterprise in order to learn first-hand what a business entails.  These skills will help students to know more about problem solving and goal attainments in their lives.

During the first phase of the project, six Learning Support Zone co-ordinators and Learning Support Assistants and the Youth Worker attended three sessions on creativity and discover different skills.  The sessions were delivered by Dr. Leonie Baldacchino of the Edward Debono Foundation for Creativity and Innovation at the University of Malta.

Students attended 3 hands-on sessions delivered by Dr. Margaret Mangion of the Edward Debono Foundation for Creativity and Innovation at the University of Malta and viewed various video clips to help them in creating different eco-bags.

An Inclusive Commonwealth PDF Print E-mail

A group of students from the Students’ Representative Councils of STC Imriehel SS and STC Sta. Venera SS, accompanied by the college’s Youth Worker, attended a special Parliamentary session to commemorate Commonwealth Day on March 14.  The students were shown around the new Parliament building and were given a general view of how the House of Representatives operates.

The climax of the visit consisted of presentations given on the Commonwealth and the recently-held CHOGM in Malta by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA).  Presentations focused on inclusivity in the Commonwealth.

A question and answer session followed the presentation and students had the opportunity to put forward their questions and experts and local parliamentarians answered them.

A visit to the House of Representatives for student councils members and their mentors in the primary and secondary schools of the College is planned for April 2016.

St. Theresa College students exchange greetings with local dignitaries PDF Print E-mail

On the 6th January 2016 a group of students from St. Theresa College accompanied by Mr. Victor Agius, College Principal, Ms.Pauline Tufigo, Youth Worker and parents, exchanged greetings with H.E. President Marie-Louise Coleiro, H.E. Archbishop Charles Scicluna, the Hon. Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and the Hon. Speaker Dr. Anglu Farrugia.  The students from both primary and secondary schools form part of the students’ representative councils and youth club of the College. St. Venera Boys Secondary student, Miguel Cauchi presented copies of the newsletter Gosti produced by the students themselves.




 

 
The End of the Primary Benchmark 2013 - A Public Meeting PDF Print E-mail

Il-Ministeru tal-Edukazzjoni ser jorganizza laqgħa għall-pubbliku ġenerali dwar l-eżami tal-Benchmark 2013 li jsir fl-aħħar tas-sitt sena primarja.

Din il-laqgħa ser tkun nhar is-Sibt 20 t'April 2013 fid-9.30 ta' filgħodu fl-iskola primarja tal-Furjana. 

F'din il-laqgħa ser jiġu diskussi oqsma differenti tal-eżami tal-Benchmark u tagħrif dwar 'Access arrangements' li se jkun introdott għall-ewwel darba din is-sena.

 

The Minister of Education is organising a meeting for the general public on the End of Primary Benchmark 2013.

The meeting will be held on Saturday 20th April 2013 at 9.30 am at the Floriana Primary School.

The meeting will focus on different components of the Benchmark examinations and the access arrangements that will be available for the first time this year.

 

 
Job Shadowing at Saint Theresa College PDF Print E-mail

Almost a total of 250 students participated in the 2012 Saint Theresa College Job Shadowing Programme.  All Form 4 students aged between 14-15 years old who attend Imrieħel Girls’ Secondary School and Birkirkara Boys’ Secondary School were given the opportunity to participate in this initiative. Students were given the opportunity to attend a 5-day long placement at organisations, institutions and private entities in a vast number of work sectors according to their career inclinations. Placements were allocated through the Chamber of Advocates, Chamber of Commerce, the AFM, MTA, various banks and a number of other entities adding up to 65 different places of work. The job shadowing experience allowed students to explore a specific career of interest by observing employees perform their work duties at their place of employment. The Saint Theresa College Job Shadowing experience provided realistic career information that will help the student in making career choices. Students were able to observe the responsibilities and tasks associated with the mentor’s career and have the opportunity to ask questions about the knowledge, skills, talents and level of education required for the job. The job shadowing experience also allows opportunities for students to expand their contacts, build interviewing skills, and become more aware of trends in the particular work sector. This exercise was part of an educational programme which includes the analysis of student career inclinations, CV writing exercises, mock interviews and a comprehensive evaluation of the whole process.

Kważi total ta’ 250 student ipparteċipaw fil-program tal-Job Shadowing 2012 tal- Kulleġġ Santa Terża. L-istudenti kollha tal-Form 4 ta’ eta bejn 14 u 15 il-sena li jattendu is- sekondarja tal-bniet tal-Imrieħel u  s-sekondarja tas-subien ta’ Birkirkara ingħataw l-opportunità li jsegwu mil-qrib karigi tax-xogħol differenti. Dawn l-istudenti attendew placements ta’ 5 t’ijiem go organizzazjonijiet, istituzzjonijiet u entitajiet privati f'numru kbir ta’ setturi tax-xogħol skond l-inklinazzjonijiet tagħhom.  Il-postijiet li ngħataw lill-istudenti tal-Kulleġġ ta’ Santa Tereża ġew allokati permezz tal-Kamra tal-Avukati, Kamra tal-Kummerċ, l-AFM, banek differenti u numru ta entitajiet oħra li jammontaw għal-65 postijiet tax-xogħol differenti. L-esperjenza tal-Job Shadowing tagħat ċans lill-istudenti biex jesploraw karrieri li jinterassawhom billi josservaw impjegati jwettqu d-dmirijiet tax-xogħol tagħhom.  Kellhom iċ-ċans ikoll li josservaw ir-responsabbiltajiet u l-kompiti assoċjati max-xogħol li kienu interessati fih u jistaqsu mistoqsijiet dwar il- ħiliet, talenti u l-livell ta' edukazzjoni  meħtieġa  għall-impjieg. L-esperjenza  tal-Job Shadowing ippermettiet wkoll opportunitajiet biex l-istudenti jespandu l-kuntatti u jsiru aktar konxji tat-tendenzi fis-setturi speċifiki tax-xogħol. L-informazzjoni realistika fuq ix-xogħol li li iggwadanjaw dawn l-istudenti ser tgħinhom għal- futur tagħhom meta jiġu biex janalizzaw x’tip ta xogħol jolqothom u meta jigu biex jagħmlu l-għażliet tas- suġġetti li jixtiequ jkomplu fuqhom. Din l-esperjenza kienet parti minn programm edukattiv li jinkludi analażi ta l-inklinazzjonijiet ta l-istudenti, taħrig fuq kif timla CV, simulazzjoni ta’ interviews tax-xogħol, u evalwazzjoni komprensiva tal-proġett sħiħ.  

 
Suċċess għall-studenta li tattendi l-iskola sekondarja tal-Imrieħel PDF Print E-mail

  

Nhar is-sbatax ta' Mejju, studenta mill-iskola sekondarja tal-Imrieħel, Amy-Christina Slater, flimkien mal-għalliema tal-bijoloġija Maria Lourdes Attard, marret Berkshire, l-Ingilterra. Amy-Christina pparteċipat f'Kompetizzjoni ta' kitba dwar l-iżvilupp sostenibbli. Flimkien mal-għalliema, fasslet pjan t'azzjoni li wasslet għall-kitba aħħarija. Hi intervistat lill-Prim Ministru, membri parlamentari u entitajiet nongovernattivi.Kitbet esej li jista' jinqara fuq is-sit www.livingrainforest.org. Ġiet finalista minn 840 student minn 59 pajjiż. Flimkien mal-finalisti l-oħra, ħadet sehem f'dibattitu li minnu ħarġu proposti għas-samit ta' Rio+20.
